Chess is ancient indian game, Kasparov was the champion of the world in Chess  |
I have very many books in English. And to day I have to take them back. For example:
English Proverbs. I write any proverbs now for you: Deeds are males, and words are females. He cannot speak well that cannot hold his tongue. Empty vessels make the greatest sound. Ask no questions and you will be told no lies. A still tongue makes a wise head. Silence gives consent When in doubt do nowt Of two evils choose the least Laugh and grow fat Care will kill a cat Where one door shuts another opens Better an open enemy than a false friend Out of sight, out of mind A good husband makes a good wife. Don't quarrel with your bread and butter Where no fault is there needs no pardon Every little helps Let sleeping dogs lie Any port in a storm ========== Wow, I have to go in the library!! |
Studentochka, some years ago one person has explained me the difference between "must" and "have to" in normal english speech. You say "have to" mostly in the meaning "vynuzhdena chto-to delat'". In the other cases it's better to tell "must".
Ach, da! I eschjo. You can't say "very many" - it's a mistake. The right is "a lot of" katerina07 добавил(а) [date]1187363276[/date]: :bud: Wish you good luck in learning english! Now, being in Germany, i understand that it's a very important knowlege. |
Very many thanks Katrina:)
(Or a lot of thanks?:shy:) |

I don't understand, what means "take" (otdat ili vzjat, ili i to, i drugoe?) :shuffle: At home I have the following English books: There are: Conan Doyle. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", Jane Austen Persuasion. The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. But these books are too difficult for me. I have a book English lernen mit Witzen (English learn with joke). Short story by Somerset Maugham and any books by Remarque.. And what is about you? |

I can"t read the whole book in english, because i did"nt have it.. p.s You are right : take - means take tobish vzjat  |
Solomon,
I like Lew Tolstoy Anna Karenina, I read it any time. It is always different. And yesterday I found the English book, that I can read now:  The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde. I suggest we read together. I write here. I write fast:) The Canterville Ghost A haunted house. Canterville Chase was an old country house in England. When Mr HIram B. Otis, the rich American businessman, decided to buy it, everyone told him he was doing a very foolish thing. There was no doubt that the place was haunted. Even the owner, Lord Canterville himself, told Mr Otis about the ghost. studentka добавил(а) [date]1188279949[/date]: "We haver not lived in the place ourselves, " said Lord Canterville, "since my great-aunt went mad, which happened when two skeleton hands were placed on her shoulders one evening as she was having dinner. I must tell you, Mr Otis, that the ghost has been seen by several living members of my family. After the accident to my aunt, none of the younger servants would stay with us. And my wife, Lady Canterville, often got very little sleep at night, because of the strange noises that came from the corridor and the library. studentka добавил(а) [date]1188280130[/date]: Mr Otis, however, just laughed, and bought the house. A few weeks later he and his wife, their oldest son Washington, who was twenty, their fifteen-year-old daughter Virginia, and the twin boys, aged nine, moved in to Canterville Chase. When they arrived at the house an old woman was waiting on the steps to meet them. This was Mrs Umney, the housekeeper. She had worked in the house for Lord and Lady Canterville. "Welcome to Canterville Chase," she said, and took them through the house to the library for tea. |
