Ой, какая прелесть, Свет!

--------------------------------------
The Breed Standard Committee of The Poodle Club of Canada has posted on the Club Website Member’s Section the Proposed updated Breed Standard for the Poodle.
There are numerous reasons for changing the current disqualification of Multi Colour in our Breed Standard.
- Many CKC and PCC Members are breeding Multi Colour Poodles and are exhibiting them at the United Kennel Club Shows and at CKC and AKC Performance Venues.
- As per latest CKC requirement for Breeders to sign that the parents of the litter being submitted for registration conform to the Breed Standard. Multi Colour is a disqualification currently, so it will become illegal to register a litter from a Multi Colour Poodle. This will change the ability of the Breeders of
Multi Colour Poodles to raise and exhibit their dogs in CKC or AKC performance events.
- In addition, it is possible that in order to improve and maintain the health of the Standard Poodle Multi Colour Poodles may be required in the gene pool to maximize heterozygosity of the Major Histocombatibility Complex of the Standard Poodle. This may be needed to decrease the increasing incidence of Autoimmune disease in the Standard Poodle.
- Historically Multi Colour Poodles were an integral part of this Breed. Historically the multi colour was common in Poodles. It wasn't until around the turn of the Twentieth Century that for some unknown reason Poodle clubs disqualified the multi colour in the conformation ring.
- Many of the oldest drawings of the foundations of the poodle picture dogs that are black and white or black and tan. The move away from this colour may have started as the poodle gained popularity with the French upper class. It was in France where the extreme fashion clips first became popular- and the shaved skin and pom-poms didn't look as good on a two colour dog as on a solid one - thus the preference for solid colour dogs.
- Multi-Patterned Poodles were shown in Conformation in England up until around 1950.
Pressure to "Disqualify" these dogs from conformation shows around the world was finally passed and the "fear" of the parti was to become like a plague. This has driven the parti-pattern to near extinction, though AKC and other worldwide registries have always allowed these patterns to be registered and used in breeding programs.
- There does not seem to be any health risks associated with the patterns, other than the lines themselves being so closely related to cause inbreeding health issues. They do not suffer from Deafness as Dalmatians and other spotted breeds do, so producing and trying to help this pattern to re-establish will not harm the breed.
- Multi colour Poodles are currently experiencing a strong comeback in the United States and can be shown in conformation classes in the United Kennel Club. They are judged under the exact same standard as Solid poodles, with only the pattern to determine which class or Breed they are to show in.
- Multi colour Poodles can also be registered with the American Kennel Club and shown in all classes except conformation. Currently in the United States there is a resurgence of the multi colour.
- In 2003 the United Kennel Club, which has been registering Poodles since 1914, after reviewing a great deal of evidence attesting to the presence of purebred multi colour Poodles throughout history, revised the Poodle breed standard to eliminate the disqualification for multi colour dogs. The UKC breed standard now places solid colour and multi colour Poodles on equal footing, not as separate breeds or different varieties, but as one breed.
- In Europe, the Verband f?r das Deutsche Hundewesen (VDH), Germany’s Kennel Club, has also accepted the parti colour Poodle for national recognition. Black and white parti and phantom patterned Poodles can be shown at National and International levels as of October 2008.
It is the feeling of the Committee that the minimum change should be to remove Parti Colour as a disqualification and place it on the Major Fault list of the Poodle Breed Standard.
Proposed changes to the Poodle Breed Standard in regard to Multi Colour:
A. Change colour section as below which will result in solid colour and multi colour Poodles Being in competion against each other in the Conformation ring.
B. Add multi colour as another three Breeds in the Conformation ring so we would have for example: Toy Poodle (Solid colour) and Toy Poodle (Multi colour) both competing in the Toy Group (much like the six Dachshunds)
C. Move Multi-colour from Disqualification section and place in Major Fault section.
D. Standard as published on website – Multi colour to remain a disqualification.
Depending on the above decision by Club Members – the following sections of the Poodle Breed. Standard will be changed to match.
Coat Colour and Skin
Any Colour (or combination of colours) except Merle or Albino.
All solid colour dogs should be clear and even after 18 months of age.
Patterns on Multi colour dogs must be distinct. White-based colour patterned dogs should have colour ears and cheeks.
Pigment (eye rims & nose) should be intense. Whites, white based patterns and extreme dilutes are allowed white toenails.
Disqualifications -Currently reads
Parti-colours, unorthodox clip.
Size: a Poodle over or under the height limits who has been excused at three shows for this reason.
Disqualifications -Change to read

Reason: Merle and Albino are a disqualification because of common health problems associated with those color dogs
