Eukanuba like all other commerical foods use cheap ingredients, deadly preservatives, awful fillers and bascially garbage. All commerical foods are owned by huge companies that make other products, but dog food is a cheap way to make billions, the cheaper and poor ingredients they use the more money they make. The Holistc Blends like Wellness, Innova, Canidae, are a 110 times better for you dog. If you go the website The Dog Food Project it will teach you how to read the ingredients and what they all mean.
I use Wellness Core which is 100% Grain Free, NO preservatives and it uses 5 different USDA grade meats. Dog do not need grains they have a hard time digesting them and breaking them down. It takes a toll on them in the long run. Especially stuff like yellow corn, corn, peanut hulls etc.
Here are some of the ingredients in Eukanuba that I really don't like to see in my dog food:
- Chicken By-Product Meal (dried random chicken parts)
- Corn Meal (filler)
- Fish Meal (mystery fish)
- Brewers Rice (cheap grain)
- Dried Beet Pulp (filler)

So why didn't the food meet AAFCO standards? Probably money. When Procter & Gamble bought Iams and Eukanuba, it changed the formula of the dog foods to a cheaper recipe. Out went the meat, in went "by-product meal" (rendering plant product). Sorghum (cattle feed) and barley replaced rice. Feeding amounts were reduced 25%.
