Explanations on canine world in France.
The Soci?t? Centrale Canine (SCC) (= VDH) is a founder member of the F?d?ration Cynologique Internationale (FCI).
It is the SCC that issues birth certificates and pedigrees, it heads all the canine events in France.
It is composed of several regional canine societies which organise dog shows etc (for example: Soci?t? Canine Midi C?te d'Azur, etc) and only accepts one dog club per breed or per group of breeds (for example Club du Caniche de France (CCF) (= for example the four German poodle clubs) etc.
The Club du Caniche de France (CCF) is hence the only one allowed to amend the standard since it is the only French poodle club homologated by the SCC. The CCF refuses to give partipoodles the name of poodle.
The Club Fran?ais des Amateurs de Caniches (CFAC) is a club which was born in 2012 and that accepts all poodle colour varieties. This club is not affiliated with the SCC because there already is the CCF.
But en 2013 European laws will allow CFAC to ask SCC for affiliation (this is a 2 year phase). If CFAC reaches a higher number of members than CCF, then when SCC will need to make a change in standard (poodle standard is amended every 5 years and the last change was done in 2012), it will give the standard to the bigger club or will oblige both clubs to merge.
The day when we will see our partipoodles in standard is not tomorrow, but if we all get together it could be in 5 years time.
Obviously if our club is an European one, even though it needs to have its headquarters in France (because the standard is officially French), all members of CFAC will be gathered in all Europe so that we can produce a standard which will not change the poodle appearance but will allow us to add more colours.
There will be solid colours (black, brown, grey, apricot, red) and there will be the same colours in partipoodle, since we now know, thanks to colour code genetics, that, for instance, the black and white partipoodle is a black poodle with invasive white markings (sw); the same occurs for apricot and white partipoodle, it is an apricot with invasive white markings, etc. Of course there will be black and tan poodles (phantom); other colours will have to be examined case by case, knowing that we will not be in a position to accept everything and that only colours that do not change in time (change of colour at each grooming for example) will be taken into account. Thanks to genetics we now know that solid, particoloured or tan marked coats all have the same base coat colour (for example : solid black = black with white markings = black with phantom tan markings or, as another example, solid grey = grey with white markings = grey with phantom white markings; the visible difference is between invasive white markings and phantom markings).
There is still some way to go but we need to follow it, because looking at the latest shows in Germany where partipoodles have been declared unsuitable to compete, and the requests lodged by CCF with SCC and FCI, one can see that partipoodle is once again in danger in Europe and maybe also in the whole world.
This is addressed to all passionate people, let's face the situation together and help each other; this is a notion I would love to see emerging in our cooperation.
